For exclusively online students, students who commute, or those who simply have jam-packed schedules, it can be difficult to make it onto campus for brief appointments or meetings. That’s why Ohio University’s English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) offers online tutoring, accessible to both graduate and undergraduate students.
Whether students are working on a thesis or dissertation, a tough assignment or simply want to further develop writing, oral communication and critical reading skills, ELIP has something to offer. ELIP provides free graduate writing labs with individual tutoring. Whether online or in-person, sessions last 45 minutes, and tutors provide feedback on course assignments, research papers, thesis work or dissertations.
Students may sign up for online sessions with the undergraduate writing center, the graduate writing center or, for those who are eligible, the English pronunciation lab. Students may select a time for their appointment between 6–9 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and graduate students can also view specific information about available tutors.
To participate in live online tutoring, students need, at a minimum, access to a computer and the internet. Though not required, having a web cam and microphone provides the ability to see and talk to a tutor the same as during an in-person session.
